RECreate Privacy Policy

RECreate (“we,” “us”) helps you find places to play sports in San Francisco — drop-in courts, swimming pools, and rec-center classes — and, optionally, to connect with friends. This policy explains what we collect, why, and your choices. You can use the core app (maps, schedules, on-device check-ins) without an account and without sharing any personal information. The information below applies when you choose to enable location or create an account.

Information we collect

• Account information — when you create an account: your email address and password (handled by our authentication provider), a display name, and any optional profile details you add (age, neighborhood, short bio, favorite sports).
• Location — if you grant permission, your device’s location is used to show nearby courts, pools, and classes and to sort places by distance. This happens on your device; we do not collect or store your precise location on our servers. You can deny or revoke this permission at any time in your device settings and still use the app.
• Content you create — crowd check-ins, court reviews, “down to play” availability signals, planned pickup runs, group/direct chat messages, friend connections, and the courts you mark as played or favorite. Content you post to shared or social features is visible to other users as described below.
• Push token — if you enable notifications, a push token from Expo’s notification service so we can deliver alerts (e.g., a friend’s game).
• Safety data — accounts you block and reports you submit, so we can hide content from you and review reported material.
• Crash data — if the app crashes or hits an error, a crash report (stack trace, device model, OS version, app version) is sent to our crash-reporting provider (Sentry) so we can find and fix bugs. Crash reports are not linked to your account and contain no location or message content.
• On-device preferences — settings such as your language, favorites, and which chats you’ve read or hidden are stored locally on your device.

How we use information

• To provide and operate the app’s features you choose to use.
• To show your posts, profile, and activity to friends and to people in a shared run or session.
• To send notifications you’ve enabled.
• To keep the community safe — enforcing blocks, and reviewing reports of objectionable content or users.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.

How information is shared

• With other users — your display name, profile, and content you post appear to your friends and to participants of runs/sessions you join. Reviews show the author name you choose to attach. Blocking a user hides your respective content from each other.
• Service providers — we use Supabase (database, authentication, and storage of your account and social data), Expo (push notification delivery), OpenStreetMap (map tiles, which receive map requests from your device), and a static web host (Vercel). These providers process data only to provide their service to us.
• Legal — we may disclose information if required by law or to protect the safety, rights, or property of our users or the public.

Data retention & deletion

We keep your account and content until you delete them. You can permanently delete your account and associated data at any time from Profile → Settings → Delete account. Deletion removes your profile, posts, messages, friendships, and related data from our database. Some content may remain briefly in backups before being overwritten.

Children

RECreate is not directed to children under 13, and you must be at least 13 to create an account. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Security

We use industry-standard measures, including encryption in transit and access controls, to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the “Last updated” date above.
